Research

Lifelines Research was originally established in 1984. Over the years we have carried out research for hundreds of satisfied clients. After more than 10 years working for The National Archives at The Family Records Centre and at Kew, Lifelines’ senior researcher, Dave Annal, returned to running the business as a full-time concern in January 2010.

We carry out all sorts of family history research, from requests to look at specific documents to more open-ended research. Dave has over forty years’ experience of working with census returns, births, marriages and deaths, wills and parish registers and he is also an expert in other areas of family history research such as military service records, death duty registers, nonconformist ancestry and chancery cases. Have a look at our Feedback section to find out what other people thought of Lifelines Research.

We are based in Hertfordshire and cover all repositories in London (including The National Archives) and the South East of England. This also includes all the major Record Offices and Libraries in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Greater London, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Our research fees are based on a basic rate of £30.00 per hour and we are always happy to work within an agreed budget. In most cases this will include the cost of supplying digital images of relevant documents. Travelling expenses will be charged as extra but we will always try to minimise this by spreading costs between more than one client.

Some of our clients want us to research a ‘complete’ family tree. The cost of a family tree package (i.e. an A4 booklet containing a narrative account of the family history, generation-by-generation, together with copies of relevant documents and an A3 family tree) works out at a minimum of £500. Essentially, the more you spend, the more research time that allows us and the more likely we are to be able to work further back. £500 allows for approximately 12 hours’ research time plus 5 hours to produce the booklet and the family tree. £600 allows approximately 15 hours’ research time, £700 allows approximately 18 hours and so on. These rates relate to research in a single direct line, e.g. working back on the male line, the female line or any other specified line.

If you want to engage our services or would like any further details, please contact us giving a brief outline of the research you require. You should expect a reply within two working days.
